And now for something completely different ...

Let's hit the UK chapter!

The BBC and some other British channels really have amazing shows. I got completely hooked on E4's Misfits. They ended season three this Summer and E4 is speaking about going on with a fourth one. Really cool. And what is also very cool is the Misfits website: http://www.e4.com/misfits/ every episode is nicely explained, people can interact about the glitches, every song played in an episode can be found here. One hell of a good website imo.


But on a completely different chapter, let's go from sci fi to crime and drama.
Here's a list of some series I discovered through Twitter & GetGlue friends:

Black Mirror, three episodes atm, nothing to do with each other. But all going in the same direction. Showing what could happen if we would go into the extremes of what we use / do today. First episode is pretty real imo, it shows an example of internet terrorism using viral videos and threatening. Second episodes goes on about reality shows. And the third one is a pretty harsh one about a "memory chip" that every would wear. It shows the going down of a couple because of an abuse of this "memory".

Hidden, big crime conspiracy that goes into the British political system. With stuff from 20 years in the past coming back. Pure crime stuff. With nice actors such as Philip Glenister.

Luther, also a crime investigation series. The story is about Luther, a troubled yet brilliant police detective. In the very first episode he tries to arrest Alice Morgan for the murder of her parents. She killed them yes, but she's a brilliant mind commits the perfect murder. Luthor cannot arrest her, but they keep in touch ... and that brings a nice turn out to the ten episodes.


The Last Enemy, I must confess I watched that one because of my crush for Benedict Cumberbatch (see next entry: Sherlock) ^_^  But nevertheless, it was a very good series. Five episodes about a big virus trouble in Afghanistan with roots into the British political system. With a touch (excuse me, a slap in the face) of Big Brother troubles ... that are I'm afraid for a near future ... I mean, the end of the fifth episode leaves you thinking about a lot of things that are happening right now.


Sherlock
Sherlock is by far, by really very far the best BBC show e_ver!
My very first impression when discovering it in my GetGlue suggestion list was "OMG, they're daring a modern Sherlock Holmes series" ... "of course, it's in the trend of the movies",  and so on.

Well pardon my french but this show really kicks asses!

There are five episodes so far. Three in 2010 and already two aired since season two started on New Years Day. Only one to go T_T before they stop it again (let's hope not for two years like last time).

Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the role of Sherlock is simply brilliant. I honestly lack of vocabulary to begin to explain how great the character is played. It's Sherlock in the flesh anno 2012 fullstop.
Watson is played by the very, very good Martin Freeman. They both make a perfect duet of a modern Sherlock Holmes that is utterly impossible to find uninteresting.

The production and direction are great.
The mind mapping ways of Sherlock brought on screen on flying texts.
The different characters so far: his brother Mycroft, DI Lestrade, Moriarty and The Woman are all perfectly played as well.

I'm doing my best to stay a bit objective on this one ... #fail ^_^

But if I could give you only one good advice, it would be Sherlock.

sci-fi winter

This is an update of my previous tv show post "sci-fi summer". There I was explaining you about all the shows I'm watching, old or new as well as about the upcoming ones.

Well as expected Haven and True Blood kept their promises. The second season of Haven was as good as the first one. And the fourth season of True Blood kept all its promises.

As I was explaining in August about True Blood, you like it or you dont, and you know it quite fast. I must say I got completely hooked on the tv show ... but ... after reading the nine "Southern Vampires Diaries" of Charlaine Harris I was glad to have two different kinda stories.
The tv show does not go as deep into details than the books but is way more creative with the whole story. More characters, more intrigues in a kind of way and of course more graphic ^_^

In a nutshell, the story is more complicated in the books and Sookie is less of a bimbo ;)


Fringe then. They started back in September and the fourth season is a success. I was a bit afraid they would go weird with the third season ending so well. But the seven first episodes are really good so far. 4x08 in about three days ;)
House is as I expected. Just for the $$$ :/ an eight season was not really necessary. But I have a crush on Hugh Laurie :) and I 've watched them all so far ;)  Next episode 8x09 on Monday January 23.


Season five of The Big Bang Theory is OK so far. There were some really nice episodes. It is and stays a very, very good show with a lot of geek and nerd attitude in it ;)  Episode 5x12 is this Thursday btw.

As for the newcomers of this Summer:
Grimm and Once Upon a Time who are fairy tale adaptations. Both quite OK if you like the style. I leave it up to you to read the reviews on IMDB ;)

And Terra Nova, a sci fi show about a couple of hundreds of people who try to start all over in prehistoric earth about 85 million years ago. Going through a portal, military stuff going on, pretty Stargate like but in it's own kind of way. And without Mac "Richard Dean Anderson" Gyver ... so ... ;)


And last but not least, Game of Thrones! Winter is coming!
Well ... there's still 96 days to wait before Sunday April 15 2012 !!!
One good advice, if you haven't started it yet, don't hesitate! It's a great show, very nicely adapted from the George R.R. Martin books.
Speaking of wich: I bought them this Summer cause I could not wait until April. Well I'm almost done and I can guarantee you that every one of the books so far (5 so far) are worth the arm ache you have of reading them (800 pages each). It's pure essence of badassery times two! And it's brilliantly written.
